• ELECTION STRESS and MENTAL HEALTH

There were months of mixed emotions leading up to yesterday’s election: anxiety, fear, worry, optimism, pride, etc.

Today you woke up with the news that your candidate has won or not. Regardless of what you believe how the country will be in the next 4 plus years, you should consider that the stress leading up to the election results may have taken a toll in your mental health.

The American Psychological Association shared that in these past months, 69% of the population had suffered from anxiety and stress – from both side of the aisle – leading up to election results.

To restore your mental health, is very important that you:

    1. Detox from electronics/social media/tv news, etc.

To limit the “DoomScrolling” – and arguments with family and friends.

    1. Engage in a more health habits and distractions such as:
      1. Relaxation
      2. Meditation
      3. Reading a book
      4. Listening to music

    …so you can feel calmer

    1. Limit conversations with friends, colleagues, family members about politics and future of country. It’s OK to set boundaries and take a break from all.
      1. Try to not taunt others, showing pride, and disdain.
      2. Try to be empathetic to people who may have deep and valid reasons to be worried, fearful, disappointed, and frustrated.
    2. Consult with a psychologist or mental health provider. It’s important to have support and feel you can talk openly without any judgment.
