  • The Background of Tampa Therapy & Wellness

    Founder’s Message:

“First of all, my main message is that I truly love this profession and the work I do. I love seeing individuals find themselves, release their emotional pains, and reach a deeper connection with new communication tools that help them be in the relationship they always dreamt of. I thrive in understanding each individual’s complexity and background.” – Dr. Rosana Marzullo-Dove

Our office is located a couple of blocks south of the University of Tampa in Hyde Park (at the corner of Platt and South Blvd) in a private and secluded setting. It is a very appropriate space to care for patients suffering from anxiety, depression, having relationship issues, or are looking for a long-term (more in-depth) type of therapy.

Dr. Marzullo-Dove’s well-rounded doctoral and master’s education in clinical psychology provided various techniques and settings to treat couples, adults, older adults, young adults, teens, children, families, and groups.

For children, we use play therapy, behavioral therapy, and Mindfulness. Children have significant difficulties recognizing and voicing their emotions. Play therapy helps the child create a warm, trusting relationship with the therapist, where life situations can be “played” in sessions. We have treated children with behavioral issues, anxiety, depression, and children from split or unconventional families. Parents’ participation in therapy is welcomed and sometimes required.

We use techniques from different theoretical views for teens, such as art therapy, play therapy, psychotherapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), behavioral therapy, Mindfulness, and Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT). We value confidentiality, and want teens to feel safe to share their inner thoughts, ask difficult questions and explore themes of anxiety, depression, friendship, relationship, sex, etc. Parents will sometimes be part of therapy, as we value parents’ participation and adult modeling of behaviors.

Our founder’s experience at Howard University Counseling Center in Washington, DC helped us utilize many techniques in working with young adults. Based on building a good relationship with the client, we see young men and women who are dealing with anxiety, stress, depression, relationship issues, academic issues, work issues, “adulting” issues, and who are now confronting their inner feelings about their past (or present) traumas. Talk therapy (Psychotherapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy [CBT], Behavioral Therapy, Mindfulness, and Emotional Freedom Technique [EFT]), and other techniques are the core of this treatment.

Our experience and bulk of our work are with Adults and Older adults dealing with anxiety, depression, relationship issues, parenting, life transitions, separation/divorce, death/dying, work/retirement, mood, and personality issues. Talk therapy (Psychotherapy, psychoanalytical exploration, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy [CBT], Behavioral Therapy, Mindfulness, and Emotional Freedom Technique [EFT]) and other techniques are the core of treatment for adults. We also offer some Group Therapy for qualifying individuals.

Support for parents is found in many different ways in our office:

    • Before conception, we provide support for individuals dealing with fertility issues or deciding to have children or not. We also work with parents going through the adoption process (before and after).
    • After conception, we provide support for mood and anxiety issues and support to parents who have lost their child (due to miscarriage, abortion, or neonatal loss).
    • Parenting skills (and sometimes Parents’ Group) are offered throughout treatment.

Couples (before and after marriage) come to us when they have either exhausted their communication skills and are still frustrated with the relationship or are having issues of trust, intimacy, and need help (re)building the relationship they dream/want. We use Gottman Method and other psychotherapy techniques.

    Diversity

I come from a complex and diverse background. I’m a first-generation immigrant from Brazil. I have previously studied Architecture and Civil Engineering before Psychology. This background helps me connect with individuals from all walks, ages, and origins.

    Personal

On a more personal note, when I am not in “working mode,” you may find me walking in neighborhoods, eating good meals, or cooking for my family. I sometimes engage in different crafts such as painting, knitting, making pieces of jewelry, rock-painting, gardening, meditating, or just soaking up the sun. Self-care is important! I try to apply to myself what I preach to my clients.

    Experiences

My educational background and experience as a human being, adoptive-mother, student, teacher, friend, family member, and LGBTQ+-ally becomes valuable to my patients. I try my best to validate their experiences and provide a safe, non-judgmental environment.
